Some items cannot be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied
I have a user that is trying to delete a message in his inbox and cannot be deleted, moved, etc. He get the following error message:

INfo985 - your solution worked great. Cna you explain to me why it worked or what specifically depressing the Shift key does to facilitate the deletion?

Just came across this article looking for something else. In answer to your question (a little late, I know), but depressing the shift key while hitting delete permanently deletes the selected item instead of just moving the item to the deleted items folder, which is what hitting delete by itself does. So, the underlying problem is one of 3 things, your deleted items folder had reached the maximum number of items (not folder size as this is calculated all together as a whole in a .pst file or mailbox), or your actual .pst/mailbox is over the size limit, and last, your .pst file or mailbox has corruption and needs recreated. I would imagine after this question was answer, you encountered other problems with this users Outlook. Anyways, I know it's a tad late, but thought I'd throw this out there for anyone else with a similar issue.

Try to run ISINTEG -s <servername> -fix -test alltests from the exchange bin directory and it will correct all the issues on everyone. However this should be run after hours.
we're using Outook 2007.
can't delete an email.
can't drag emails and move them into folders.
