It sounds like this is being caused by having Outlook in cached mode. I'd try turning off cached mode first and see if it connects.

Browse All TopicsWe are currently trying to migrate a client from there old pop 3 service to our Exchange Server 2003. The accounts have been created and passwords have been tested via Outlook Web Access (OWA). We even tested the accounts using Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 in our offices. We were able to connect to the exchange server with no problem. Our exchange server is not located in our office. It is in a data center. We use RPC over http to connect to our email.
At the users desk we backed up their current email, created a new profile, added the RPC information and were able to connect to the Exchange server. Both the exchange server and user name were underlined.
When we opened up Outlook 2007, entered the user name and password, which we know works, we got the following error.
"Cannot Open your default email folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your offline folders."
The happened with two different accounts at two different desks.
The only thing that is different between their network and ours is they are part of a domain.

so while this particular PC is unable to connect, it is connected to another domain that you havn't tested in.
You have however tested it from outside the domain from a standalone computer and the access was good.
So I need to know, since you can only access exchange from within a domain environment, how is it they are in another domain, or is it the same domain that the exchange server is in?
Does the domain in question have any group policy settings that may interfere?
Is there a trust relationship between the two domains?
But my issue is, if your logged into one domain, how do you expect to get connected to another...
Ok, they wouldn't have had their account locked out would they?
Would they have enough access to the local settings folder in their profile to create the outlook.ost? Or is it renaming it outlook0.ost if one exists?
Might be an idea to make them admin till its initially setup, then revoke to user status...
I've heard that renaming the ost file in the local settings directory will enable it to be rebuilt.

Are you sure the exchange user limits are not being met?
Here is the solution. Open notebook and copy and past this code
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Softwar
"DefConnectOpts"=dword:000
Then save it as a .reg file.
Then run it on the XP PC in questions. This worked for us.
The issue was running Exchange 2003, Outlook 2007 on XP Machines.
