The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

[Outlook]  Outlooking Crashing Due to GoogleDesktop

Asked by CE101 in Outlook Groupware Software, Search Engines

Applications:  Outlook 2002 (10.2627.2625), MS Office XP SP3
                      GoogleDesktop   version  5.7.0806.10245
O/S:              Windows 2000 Professional, SPK 4

This is a followup to an earlier question
[Outlook]  Program Crashing / Folder Permissions
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Groupware/Outlook/Q_23770517.html

In brief, Outlook has been crashing several times a day.
In troubleshooting this problem I have tried several things (as described in the earlier posting), to no avail.

One of the suspects seems to be GoogleDesktop.
I've unregistered the DLL file and the problem has gone away
         regsvr32  /u  "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\googledesktopoffice.dll"

Although I am pleased that Outllook is working ok again, I hate losing Google.

So here are my questions...
(1) It appears to me that Google does its indexing of Outlook "on the fly", as emails are being received. The reason I say this is because my Send/Receive cycles are much slower when Google is registered...  Am I correct that the indexing is done as emails are being received?
(2) If this is true...  Is there any way to configure Google in such a way that it does not do its indexing while Outlook is online?
I still want Google to index my PST file, however I don't want this done while Outlook is online. It should be done when Outlook is offline.
Can Google be configured in this way?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
