tried: Customize current view > reset current view, then Customize View > Fields and removed column. Restart Outlook and column back.
tried: right-click > remove this column. Restart Outlook and column back.
tried: Office Diagnostics (I didn't think it would do anything except buy me time, and that's what happened, nothing found)
tried: Tools>Customize>Options "Reset menu and toolbar usage data". Removed column. Restart Outlook and column back.

Clean views switch did not work. :( Still launched Outlook with the header status column. I received a response from Microsoft that it is a known issue in Outlook and the only current workaround is to work in online mode...

As this is not a standard Field, you can close Outlook and reopen using the Clean Views Switch
Start>Run>Outlook.exe /cleanviews
This will reset all views back to Outlooks deafult settings.
