Outlook 2007 Rules won't autoforward to external email address

I have setup a rule with the rules wizard and one with the out of office assistant. The rule is to say if any email comes into this account forward it to a gmail account while out of the office.  I have set this up and tested it and it is not forwarding the email to the account like it is supposed to.  Am I missing something or is there something else that needs to be configured on exchange to get this to work correctly?

The feature has to be enabled on the server and it is disabled by default. If you are not the administrator of the Exchange server then you will need to ask them if it is enabled.

Auto forward rules can be seen as a security risk as they can cause an email loop.

* Agreed with Mestha, since when you speak about OOF and an action depending on OOF, practically and techically its not possible.

* Because with outlook wen you say OOF rule, it means that all emails that hit the mailbox would be responded with the OOF message (ofcourse not for each to the same sender email id).

* And what you are demanding is to set a rule accordingly when you set a OOF reply. So basically you would have to configure 2 rules.

* Again the problem here is which rule (Client or Server based). And OOF falls in the server based category. So the only option would be either to keep the OL client open to receive the email and forward them as per rule or else simply create an Auto-Forward from the server end itself.

* That would be using the Exchange General Tab on the ADUC properties and make sure that you disable and stop the rule once back in office

Good Luck (^_^)

I am responsible for the exchange server.  It is a sbs with exchange 2003.  There is some new features I am not aware of coming from the Exchange 2000 Server.  So where abouts in SBS do you go in to allow the rule to autoforward?  I did find what you were referring to in AD properties.  But could you elaborate from the exchange perspective of where this enabled.
