Question

cannot remove outlook reminder for deleted appointment

Asked by: seth2740

There used to be a calender item for a meeting tuesday at 2pm.  That is no longer the case, but i still get reminder at 1:45 for that meeting.   I have deleted the item from the calendar, i have looked at every calendar view (day/week/month, all appointments, active appointments, events, annual events, recurring events, by category) and the item is not there.  I'm not running in cache mode, have tried running with /cleanreminders but it still comes up.

Hello seth2740,

Try going into the calendar screen then looking for the view | current View | Active appointments screen and see if the reminder is displayed there ... deleting it if so.

Regards,
Chris

I stated before I went through all calendar views - including active appointments - and it isn't there.

seth2740,

WHat do you get if you try to open the item from the reminder?

seth2740,

ALso take a note of the subject and then in the VBE immediate window try typing, (replace fdsgfdsaf with the subject):

application.session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).Items("fdsgfdsaf").delete

If there are more than one entry then it may take take a few tries.

seth2740,

If there do seem to a lot of them and you are sure you want to delete them all then try running this sub ... changing subj accordingly.

chris_bottomley

Sub delrept()
Dim olkApp As Application
Dim itemcount As Long
Dim subj As String
    subj = "abcde"
    Set olkApp = CreateObject("outlook.application")
    For itemcount = Application.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).items.count To 1 Step -1
        If Application.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).items(itemcount).subject = subj Then _
            Application.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).items(itemcount).Delete
    Next
End Sub

If I open the item, it opens.

I tried that one liner using the actual subject and got a run-time error.

The operation failed.  An object could not be found.

I just opened the item and deleted it from there.  It wasn't in my calendar before and still isn't.
I'll wait and see if I get another reminder Tuesday.

Which line did it fail on?

Chris

by: seth2740Posted on 2009-02-09 at 03:45:54ID: 23589148

not sure what you mean by which line did it fail on.
i used that one line command 'application.session....'
i didn't use the other script because there is only calendar entry for that item.

by: chris_bottomleyPosted on 2009-02-09 at 07:15:27ID: 23590692

seth2740,

Are you sure there are no more such entries ... running the script is the work of a few minutes, after all you have asked for help because you don't know what is happening and i'm just trying to rule out anything I can think of ... but let's see if the last action cured it anyway as Tuesday is but a few hours away.

I had a similar situation with Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003 with these observations:
1. The appointment was always reset to the time Outlook was launched.
2. The reminder did not show up in OWA.

Because it did not show up in OWA, I assumed it was something stuck in Outlook, so I created a new Outlook profile which resolved the problem. Running the script above would only clear it until Outlook was started again.
