I will give this a shot, thanks.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI've run into a problem today where 1 single user reported that the body of some emails she's getting are blank. When looking at the issue, I determined the body is still there, but seems to be the text is white. You can see the message body if you select the message body contents. The font/color are set correctly in the Stationary options. They display correctly when running Outlook in safe mode (outlook.exe /safe). I tried outlook.exe /cleanview and outlook.exe /cleanprofile. I deleted/recreated the profile. All to no avail. If I login as another user and set up Outlook to point to her mailbox it displays fine. While this makes me think I could maybe recreate the windows profile to fix this, I really don't want to - I'm at a CPA firm and it's Tax season! Besides, that doesn't really reveal what the real issue is.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanx,
Kevin Murphy

I finally was able to try many of these suggestions. Sorry, but the end user is at an office that's a 2 hr drive away.
I tried everything except the util listed in #6, because I ran out of time and the user had to get some work done. I ended up reinstalling office and SP3 because the current installation couldn't resolve it's original install location, and I ended up using the client install util to blow it away because I couldn't even reisntall/repair from the CD.
We have a consultant do things at this office who is going to take a look with some "fresh eyes".
One thing to re-iterate:
If I login as another user (domain admin in this case), and set up an email profile to this user, it works fine. So, it stands to reason that we could blow away the windows profile and recreate it to fix this.
But, that is a somewhat "blunt" approach and wasn't preparted to fix anything that might get broken.
Success!
The consultant's "fresh eyes" took at look and fixed it. Here is what he sent to me as the solution:
Issue resolved. After a bit of sleuthing I noticed an email format setting for replies and plain text. Since Nancy's latest problem emails were a mix of text and HTML (with only email links visible), I decided to tweak this setting. The color of the font being used (arial, 10pt) was set to black, but it displayed in a very faint yellow. I discovered this when trying to reply to one of the "blank" emails. So I set the font color to "auto", clicked "apply", and "joy"... as your buddy from EE would say.
I consider this an acceptable solution. Thanks to you folks for your suggestions. They certainly helped to eliminate other potential causes.

Hello kmurphy,
n Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. It is a hidden file, so you have to unhide hidden files. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.
ng/English /OLfix/ind ex.htm
t/howto/pr ofile.htm
1. Reset the Outlook toolbar template. With Outlook close, do a search for and rename outcmd.dat file. Do the same for frmcache.dat and outlprnt files. Restart Outlook.
Outcmd.dat is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Applicatio
2. If no joy, register two important Outlook files. Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL
Do the same for INETCOMM.DLL
3. If no joy, an addin could be interfering. Disable Outlook Addins. Go to Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Addin Manager or COMM/Addins and disable the addins.
If you cannot open Outlook, do a search for and rename extend.dat file.
4. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus and other security programs, Yahoo and Google toolbars, and desktop search programs. Disable these programs one at a time.
5. Repair Outlook. With Outlook open, go to Help > Detect and Repair.
6. If no joy, repair Outlook with this free utility - OLfix

7. If no joy, create a new Outlook profile.

8. If no joy, reinstall Outlook. Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall. A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.
Hope this helps!
