when I meant create a rule to move to trash - I meant create a special folder called deleted items and move them into there -
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI recently started using iMAP with Outlook 2003, previously using Thunderbird.
when you delete a message in the Outlook client, it only places a strike through the mail item to show its deleted (the mail item still exist in the list). It does not, as you would expect, delete the message or place it in the trash folder.
I did a google search, and could not come up with a solution for this in Outlook. Thunderbird moves deleted messages to trash.
I want the emails moved to the trash directory.
Any ideas on this?

Deleting IMAP Email Messages
Outlook 2003 deletes IMAP mail in two stages. When you select a message and choose Delete,
the message is then marked for deletion. It remains visible in the messages list with a line through
it. At this point you may still undelete the message. When you select Purge Deleted Messages,
any messages marked for deletion are then permanently deleted.
Note: You can choose to hide messages marked for deletion. On the View menu, click
Arrange By, then choose Current View and finally select Hide Messages Marked for Deletion.
Delete a Message from an IMAP Folder
1. In the message list, select the message.
2. On the toolbar, click the Delete button or press CTRL-D. This marks the message you
want to delete.
3. On the Edit menu, click Purge Deleted Messages to remove the deleted items
permanently. Once you purge a message, it cannot be recovered.
4. To restore a message that is marked for deletion on an IMAP server, select the message
and click Undelete on the Edit menu.
Note: You must be connected for the deletions to occur; if you are not connected, the

I think the best you could probably do is create a rule that anytime you receive a message copy it to trash - that way you will always have another copy for trash and can purge when you want.
Other than that you can hide the deleted ... then with the above rule you won't see them , they will purge, and you will have your own copy in trash.
