Random duplicate emails received in Outlook 2007

I have a user who occasionally gets duplicate emails from other people. I do not know if this is also happening with people outside of our firm. None of the users who are sending the mail have more then one instance of Outlook open so I cant pinpoint a reason for it.

For example. User 1 received an email from User 2. It duplicates in User 1's inbox but the other recipients whom received the same message do not get a duplicate. User 2 than forwards the same message to User 1 and the IT Dept. User 1 does not get a duplicate of the forward (neither does IT). All other emails to User 1 come in fine. About an hour later User 3 sends an email to User 1 and it duplicates. IT immedialty goes to User 3's desk and sends another email to User 1 but it does not duplicate.

So basically its random and the problem cannot be duplicated. The weird thing is that none of the people sending these emails are having them duplicate by any other recipients accept User 1 and before I left work, User 1 told me that she received a 3rd duplicate from someone else. Also, none of the people sending these emails have Outlook open twice.

We are on Exchange.

That does help but before I blow out the profile, I just want to get some more opinions. Thanks Raiden.
Is there more than one accont configured for this person? If so then check to see if the second account is set to have email delivered to the same inbox. If you have any rules running check those to make sure they are set correctly. Try repairing Outlook as well as the pst file. Disable any 3rd party add-ins if you have any running.

There is only one account for this user. I also checked her rules and she does not have any. I have not tried to repair Outlook. I will try that next. No 3rd party add ins..

Did you ever find a solution?  We are experiencing a similar problem.  The duplicates are random, some from internal people, some external.  Some users are getting them (but perhaps 1 duplicate out of 100 emails), while others are not getting any.  While that sounds like a relatively small problem, it's happening to our CEO.
