Have a look at this article. I have resolved this error by following the instructions.

The short version of the fix I've used is this.
Tools > Internet Options.
2. Click the Programs tab.
3. Click the Make Default button.
4. Click OK.
Now see if you can click the links in email. You may have to restart Outlook or Internet Explorer for this to work.

If the microsoft fix does not work I would personally recommend using firefox. Should be using it anyway ;) IE is horrible. Seriously, I have seen many cases where performing the Microsoft fix does not fix the issue.
