Question

How do I get my outlook emails back

Asked by: gbzhhu

Hi,

I purchased a PC years ago.  Those who built it put an adminsitrator account.  It has Win XP.  It didn't logging on so I didn't bother with that account.  Just used it.  Recently in order to prevent my nephew from being on the PC 24/7 I created a new account.  On a reboot I get a login screen for the new user which is fine.  When I logged on my outlook would not recognise me so I connected to my provider again setting up outlook.  This works fine only for new email.  Where is my old mail?  how can I get back?

I don't have a password for the administrator account

Thanks

H

open control panel > user accounts
Change the way users log on or off , uncheck using Welcome Screen
Reboot the computer, this will give you the option to type the username when the computer power on

Enter the username Administrator
you can find your emails,
Now, on Outlook, Export your emails then import them back to the other user

gbzhhu asked how he could get his old emails back, the store folder is "Outlook.pst" in the name of your previous account
Unlike Outlook Express the Outlook program keeps all addresses, emails, appointments etc in one Outlook.pst file. The easiest way is to copy this file over to the right folder. You can also use the Outlook Import Wizard/ what i do
Log off this account back onto the old and then copy that  "Outlook.pst",   to C drive Documents and  settings Administrator/ My documents. Log off and back onto your administrator account and look in my documents
go to C:\Documents and Settings/ administrator your my documents you should see it there now. And now import them/

Merete, my apologies, I was not sure whether I was using OUtlook or Outlook Express.  Having checked it it is Express I am using.

Houssam , I tried your solution.  All went well except these steps

- At the point of exporting mail I was not asked a location, it simply said that mail will be exported to Outlook and Exchange, blah blah! I okeyed that.
- At the point of imorting mail I was presented with a long list to select from.  Obvious choices were Exchange, Outlook and Outlook  Express. EXchange comes up with some error, can't remember.  Something like "Can't export MAPI based mail blah blah".  I tried Outlook and Outlook  Express.  I get a location selector where textbox cannot cannot be typed in and on selecting browse I am not sure what location I am looking for.  I attempted to loo at the location that was already in the text (not editable) but somehow a folder Local Setting is hidden in the folder browser.  This folder is visible in the normal windows explorer

What is your advice?

H

Righto,

I am causingh a lot on confusion with Outlook and Outlook express.  I am using Outlook Express.  I also happen to have Office 200 on my PC and so I fired Outlook, asked it to export file from Express.  It did but it only contains mail only for my current user not that of administrator.  Trying to login as admin and see!!
