Change the format of the e-mail to HTML and enable MS Word as the e-mail editor

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-02 at 04:43:43ID: 25718828

Hi, Ramante.

How is the picture referenced in the signature?

@sgsm81 - Word is the ONLY editor in Outlook 2007.  It cannot be enabled or disabled.

Ah - sorry BlueDevilFan must have gotten wires crossed with 2K3

sgsm81, e-mail is HTML in "Tools >> Options".  I tried your link and same result, no image in signature.

BlueDevilFan, I tried both ways, i clicked on the Image icon and selected within the signature.  Also, I copied via clipboard directly to Signatures; both gave same results.

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-02 at 15:38:07ID: 25724929

So you're building the signature in Outlook's signature editor.  Try building it outside of the signature editor using Notepad or an HTML editor.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-02 at 15:56:50ID: 25725039

how?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-02 at 16:22:16ID: 25725165

The signature is nothing but some HTML (assuming that you're sending mail in that format).  For the picture you'll use an <IMG> tag.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-02 at 16:26:24ID: 25725186

i'm a bit loss...are you referring to create an html in some other application other than outlook?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-02 at 16:31:00ID: 25725206

Yes.  You don't have to create a signature in Outlook.  You can create it with any tool you want.  Once created simply drop the file(s) in Outlook's signature folder.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-02 at 17:36:41ID: 25725480

i created in word....then saved...then open up signature (tools >> option >> mail format >> signature) then dropped the file in the signature and doesn't work.

Whats going on?  When we had Windows XP, worjed excellemt.  We didnt have to creat the signature in another file.  Please advice.

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-02 at 18:04:28ID: 25725567

Don't use Word and don't use Outlook's signature editor at all.  For testing purposes just create the HTML file in Notepad and then drop it in the Signature folder.

I don't have an HTM editor.

I haven't changed my Outlook version, it still 2007.  I just reinstalled it in my Vista Business PC.  In my XP it works fine.  It has to be a configuration of some sort.

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 02:14:04ID: 25727457

"I don't have an HTM editor."
You don't need an HTML editor.  It is easier if you have one, but it's not a requirement.  Here's an example of a signature.

"In my XP it works fine."
Are you saying that Outlook 2007 on XP does not attach the image used in your signature while Outlook 2007 on Vista does?

"It has to be a configuration of some sort."
I'm not aware of any Outlook settings that control whether an image in a signature is attached or not

Thanx for the example, but it doesn't work.  I created it and then copied it to my signature and it just shows the HTML lines.

Ok, let me explain my problem; maybe I didn't clearly presented the situation.

We had XP PC and changed all for Vista Business PC.  We installed our Office 2007 to our Vista PC.  We copied our PST from our XP PC to our new Vista box.

We created the signature in Outlook 2007 as usual.  We went to tools >> option >> mail format >> signature.  Wrote down our signature information, click on the image Icon to include our company logo.

When we create an email, you can see the signature perfectly; just like yours.  Shows your info and at the bottom, the logo.   Ok, as I said, when creating an email, the system insert automatically the signatures and presents perfectly.  There is no problem there.

The problem:

The problem is when the recipient received the email, the see our signature info, but the logo or the image is showed as an attachment (see image), not as part as the signature.  As the pic displays, the signature at the recipients email, shows the logo as an attachment (see the red circled at top, the red circle at bottom indicates where the logo should be displayed).

I understand this is a configuration problem and we have not been able to resolved it.  We did everything as in the XP box.  .  I don't want to use any other method because in our XP box worked perfectly.  I hope I explained my situation so you can advice properly.

Thanx for your patience.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:01:46ID: 25727673

Correction!

sorry, the red circle at should be over "image001.jpg" not "Message".

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:10:55ID: 25727720

"I created it and then copied it to my signature and it just shows the HTML lines."
What do you mean "copied it to my signature"?  Are you saying that you copied the HTML, pasted it into Notepad, saved the file with a .htm extension, placed the file in Outlook's signature folder, created a message, applied that signature and you saw the raw html?  If so, then something is horribly wrong.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:17:22ID: 25727755

Yes.  Please I want to use signature as its used in outlook, I dont want a workaround; its just not working here.

Based on the info I have sent, what are we missing to correctly fixed this problem?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:23:24ID: 25727793

Part of fixing any problem is understanding what the problem is.  That's what I'm trying to do.  I'm trying to determine if a signature created outside of Outlook exhibits the same behavior.  If it does, then the problem is with Outlook signatures in general.  If it doesn't, then the problem has to do with creating signatures in Outlook.  Can you try the test of

1.  Opening Notepad
2.  Copying the HTML I posted above into Notepad
3.  Saving the file with a .htm extension
4.  Moving/copying the file to Outlook's signature folder
5.  Create a new message
6.  Click the signature button on the ribbon and select this signature

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:25:33ID: 25727803

where is the "Outlook's signature folder" located  so I can copy it?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:28:48ID: 25727826

On a Vista box the path should b C:\Users\<your username>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\signatures

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 03:36:29ID: 25727885

understood.

I did it and same response.  I literally placed your signature.  As I said when creating, the signatures displays perfectly.  It showed your name and your certification logo.  But when I sent it to myself, me as a recipient, I received your info as signature, but your logo as an attachment.

I tried that in sgsm81 suggestion at 11/02/09 04:49 AM, ID: 25718863:

It didn't work

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 05:42:49ID: 25728796

You tried setting the registry value and it didn't work.  Right?

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 05:59:59ID: 25728963

i did that change & same results.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:10:58ID: 25732354

any advice?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:26:35ID: 25732514

As described in the article I linked to Outlook 2003 had an option for sending a copy of pictures in a message instead of sending a link to them.  This appears to be what's happening to you , especially in light of the test you carried out for me.  The only way the logo I used just be included in the message is if Outlook is set to embed all pictures.  The option controlling this was removed in Outlook 2007.  Apparently it's controlled now by creating a registry entry.  If that didn't work, then I don't have any suggestions on how to proceed.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:37:56ID: 25732636

ok thanx.

Is there a way to have some of your colleagues review this question?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:45:26ID: 25732715

If they happen to see it here.  There's no organized means of calling attention to it.  Curiously enough I have another question that looks to be the same issue.  I gave that person the same link.  I'm curious to see if they have any luck with it.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:50:07ID: 25732770

ok thanx.  I'll keep searching.  The curious thing is that in XP I didn't have this problem and I didn't have to create a html..  Most surely I am overlooking a configuration.  Anywas thanx for your help.

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-05 at 03:01:39ID: 25748260

The registry setting solution worked for the person in the other question I mentioned.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-05 at 03:28:13ID: 25748395

It doesn't work.

I created it exactly as in the link.

The curious thing is that when my Outlook receives my email (testing myself) I don't see the logo.  When I send to Hotmail account, the logo is there and also an attachment,  When sending to yahoo account, no logo.

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-05 at 03:51:37ID: 25748514

"It doesn't work."
I believe you.  I just wanted to pass on that it did work for the other person.  That could mean that your issue is entirely different.

"When I send to Hotmail account, the logo is there and also an attachment,  When sending to yahoo account, no logo."
Well, that sounds a bit different.  Outlook can't be responsible for how a receiving mail system represents things.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-10 at 01:03:28ID: 25783544

That is true.  But when I send myself and email, I still get no logo (exact result as the images I initially sent with this question).  Surely I am missing something.  I still have my XP box.  Where should I look to clearly do a comparison to both Outlooks (Xp Box against Vista Box)?

by: BlueDevilFanPosted on 2009-11-10 at 16:57:05ID: 25791579

The operating system doesn't have anything to do with this.  It's an Outlook issue.  Beyond what that article suggests I don't have any suggestions.  Sorry.

by: RamantePosted on 2009-11-11 at 19:30:46ID: 25801325

Ok, thanx.  Really, totally lost here.  I turn on my old XP, send myself an email, I see my logo.  Do the same in my Vista box, signature appear, but no logo.

I'm closing the question and awarding, if any advice or new info, please advice.

Thanx
