Display table in Flash CS4 when button is clicked

I am currently copy/pasting a table of data from excel to flash. Then i am converting this to a symbol/movie clip/graphic.

What i need to happen is when a another button is pressed the table is shown otherwise its hidden.
I have tried everything and cant seem to get it to work!
Does the table need to be on the same layer as the button being clicked?

Is there a simple way to to link data in excel to automatically update?
if not then my crude method of paste will do, but i will have a number of buttons which when clicked display different tables.
