Outlook 2010 keeps crashing; ntdll.dll is fault module. Any explanation, and cure?

Recently upgraded to Office 2010.  Have started using Opera, instead of IE, as well.  No problems until today, but it keeps crashing.  I can hardly get started in it.  I was moving an email to a separate file folder (something I do often) when it started.  Following error message:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:      APPCRASH
  Application Name:      OUTLOOK.EXE
  Application Version:      14.0.4760.1000
  Application Timestamp:      4ba8fefd
  Fault Module Name:      ntdll.dll
  Fault Module Version:      6.0.6002.18005
  Fault Module Timestamp:      49e03821
  Exception Code:      c0000005
  Exception Offset:      00066739
  OS Version:      6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1
  Locale ID:      1033

Additional information about the problem:
  LCID:      1033
  skulcid:      1033

I understand several factors can be involved:  faulty installation, defective hardware, faulty or obsolete drivers, malware infections, or registry errors.  How the heck can I know which one is causing the problem, and then fix it?

I actually seemed to fix the problem by kicking the tires.  I went into the account settings, fiddled around there some, and found two email accounts set up, one under MAPI, the other as it should have been, which was POP/SMTP.  Seems that was causing the confusion, although the error box still appears at times, but Outlook isn't crashing anymore, at least.

Since both of your solutions make sense, though I didn't necessarily need them, they well could have been helpful, so I'll divide the points up.  Thanks!

This would likely work, and I have run into add-ons causing failures on a number of ocassions, so I think you are on the right track, dmwynne.  Thank you.

thompsonwireless, you were a little vague.  I would have had to come back with, "run what repair... with the Windows disk, you mean, or with other software?"

Thanks to all, and to all a good night.
