Unable to synchronise folders using outlook 2010 for gmail IMAP acounts

I have a new Dell XPS laptop running windows 2007 with latest Kaspersky internet security software
Almost all the time I am unable to synchronise my outlook folders with the 3 gmail accounts I use. Although on the test settings I can log into the server and send a test message, when I press send and receive I get this error
"
Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for Prof Googlemail.' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for Prof Googlemail. Error: This IMAP command cannot be sent to the server before the connection was terminated. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I have tried switching protection off in Kaspersky to no effect. I have checked and rechecked the server settings to no avail.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks

Have you got the correct port? Gmail IMAP uses a nonstandard port (993 with SSL). Also check that you are using standard password authentication.

PS you also might try to configure it on another computer, to make sure Kaspersky isn't getting in the way. Also try disabling Windows firewall. Are you in a company environment? Certain ports might be blocked off due to company policy.

Thanks all. The ports are correct with SSL. The settings match those from paulsuave. Could it be a problem that I use three gmail addresses in IMAP format? Not a problem with my old computers.
Could it be a problem that I use three gmail addresses in IMAP format?

Have you tried deleting the three accounts and configuring JUST ONE account to see if that IS the problem?

Unfortunately I realise I need to do this. Am away from the computer 2 days. Will try on Monday. Thanks very much'

The solution is to change the send and receive properties

I solved it myself!
The solution was great but it was not very clear how to get where exactly.
I hope this helps:

In Outlook 2010:
1. Click the Send/Receive tab
2. Click the Send/Receive Groups dropdown list
3. Select Define Send/Receive Groups...
4. Click Edit on the right hand side
5. Make sure "Download headers for subscribed folders" is selected
