asked on

how to retreive user file ID in groupwise when user doesnt exist

my back up retention is 1 year.
i have a cd with groupwise archives with a bunch of .000 files. instead of using archive to go, someone backed up his archive folder. this is the only thing i have to go with.
how can i recreate the same user with the same FILE ID?, then open his groupwise, then point to the archive cd i have or the folder ill copy to.

thx a million

Something with your syntax isn't quite right.  The utility comes with a .txt file and lists how the syntax should be.  It is very, very picky or you get errors just like you've received.

I appears also that you don't have the path to the domain object at the beginning of the line.

Check the .txt file that came with and you'll like see what is needed.
Hi

It's possible to create a user, and change the FID...

Create a new user, add an GroupWise account - go i ConsoleOne and take properties on the user... go into page options and disable groupwise - close properties, take properties on the user again... go to other, chance the FID on the groupwise account...

After that you can log in to your GroupWise account, and a new db with the FID you wanted is created...

and with this approach it won't be necessary to change the FID on the archive

here is a screenshot of my user JSM. i dont see anywhere where i can change the FID. i

Try the following syntax with the FID Editor

GW5AFE <path to archive> (c:\archive\of078arc) <new FID> (whatever the new FID for the user account is) <domain context> (ou=groupwise.ou=services.o=company)

My examples are in ( ) and the syntax is in < >.  Here is what this might look like:

GW5AFE c:\archive\of078arc K87 ou=gw.o=novell

That is going to change the internal FID of the msg.db, ngwguard.db and the user.db found inside the of078arc directory to the K87 FID.

Once this is done, you need to rename the of078arc to ofK78arc

Hope this clears up the syntax.
