Hello Asaf,

my english is nearly so good as yours, therefore I have to ask for redescription.

How do you get your view name?
Wath is the exact string you put in $$Return?
Wath kind are your buttons: Actions or form Buttons?
Have you enabled the database property: "WebAccess:UseJavaScriptWhenGeneratingPages"?

At least, what is your Domino version?

So long,
stamp

Hi stamp && other

some clarifications regarding my question:
1. In my Form i have a hidden field called View which
     get it value from another field called
     EmployeeName(@Name([CN];EmployeeName)
2. The string i have in the field $$Return is:
"[/"+@ReplaceSubstring(@Subset@DbName;-1);"\\";" ";/";
"+")+"/"+View+"?OpenView]"
(i hope i didn't miss something)
3. The bottons are Action bottons.
4. yes,i enable the d.b property web acces...
5. The domino version is R5.

three more things:
- i was not clear the last time when i said that save&close
works and Exit not.
when i am using P.c and I.E browser Save&&close Works and Exit not.
when i am working on a unix station and netscape browser they are both not working.and i think because netscape
is not supporting two command sequential i.e(Save;FileCloseWindow ).
- The d.b is used for Hour report .
every employee enter the form and the hidden field(View)
has the name of the view we would like to get when we press
the two bottons("Save && Close OR Exit).
of course that every employee return to a different view.

Thanks for anyone that can help.

FILECLOSEWINDOW, will always takes back to the starting point of the database. For your case,

Create an hidden field called "ViewToOpen", and construct the view parameters eg:

@Subset(@DbName;-1) + "/Main?OpenView"

In $$Return, "[" + ViewToOpen + "]"

In the close button, have this formula:
@URLOpen(ViewToOpen)

Good Luck

Hi Asaf,

the problem is in the field "View"!

You have to know one extremly important topic in web application: Web application do not have a session.

Some people get confused because you can see logged on web users with following Domino console command:
tell http show users [debug]

but this is only telling how many session cookies Domino keeps actually and for wath time.

Wath consequence does this sessionles web page display have?
Simply explained: you have only this variable values in the form which  you can see in HTML web page source code on the browser side.

Ok, after submit you can calculate from this browser values other fields to new calculated values. But never you can have a hidden field hollding anything betwean two web page displays.

Extreamly confusing are computed for display fields: you see them on the web page, but there is no value submited back to the form because that wath you have seen was not a variable value but simple HTML text.

To avoid this confusion there is an property on the form telling Domino to generate HTML code for all form fields.
The form property is found on second property tab titeled with a propeler hat. The property is the last checkbox on this second tab page.

Check this and tell me wath difference you can observe.

Regards,
stamp

hello again,

i checked the "generate html code" but nothing changed.
i can see that the View field hold the correct value
of the view i want the form to return after choosing one of the buttons,
but when i use Exit (FileCloseWindow) the form return
to the default view(not the one that i pointed in the
$$Return field).(to remind you - the use of Save&&Close
botton is working i.e return to the view in $$Return).
What i realy can't understand is why this is not working
when i am working with netscape(even the Save&&Close).
What i read is that only the two commands when come sequentially(@FileSave;@FileCloseWindow) mean that you made submit and then the form look on the field $$Return.
This may explain why Exit button is not working,but
it does not explain why Save&&Close works with I.E browser
and not with Netscape.
The Support od "Domino" said that they don't support
Netscape so they can't give me an answer.
i wonder if anyone has done this in netscape?

Did you try my suggestion.

As far as Save & Close, only save is executed which is equivalent to submit and in Close action domino is trying to take you to the default view or start of the database (For eg: if you opened the document from a view it will take back to that view, or if you started by opeing a form directly then it takes you back to the database). So Notes is functioning as it is supposed to. i.e. Close button acts like back button. That has to be overridden !

Hi Asaf,

once more: have you looked into Netscape html code wether the two input fields like this have a string value:
<INPUT NAME="EmployeeName" TYPE=hidden VALUE="JonDoe">
<INPUT NAME="View" TYPE=hidden VALUE="JonDoesView"></FORM>
</BODY>
</HTML>

I haven't used Netscape, yet. But here's a summary of how domino works :
1) The $$Return field contains the URL where you want to go after you save&close a document by using the following formulas :
  @Command([FileSave]);
  @Postedcommand([FileCloseWindow])
2) If you want to only execute the FileCloseWindow-command, domino will always return to the default-view of the database. (which is determined by the launch-settings in the database properties)

So in your case, the coding for you Save & Close-button would be :
  @Command([FileSave]);
  @Postedcommand([FileCloseWindow])
$$Return contains the formula :
  "[/" + @replacesubstring(@subset(@dbname;-1);"\\":" "; "/":"+") + "/" + View + "?OpenView]"
This will result in something like :
  [/dir/database.nsf?John+Doe?OpenView]

For the exit-button (close without saving) use HemanthaKumar's suggestion and use the @URLOPen-command to directly open the correct view. Use the same formula as for the $$Return-field (but without [,]) as the value for the URL to be opened :
  @URLOpen("/" + @replacesubstring(@subset(@dbname;-1);"\\":" "; "/":"+") + "/" + View + "?OpenView")

Regards,
JM
