We are just upgrading users to 6.0.1, and I've encountered a strange problem: the Internet address specified in the location document gets overwritten (nightly I think) by the internet address in the Address Book.
I wouldn't mind, except that you can't put an email address in the format:
"Joe Sixpack" <jsixpack@anycompany.com>
...in the person record's Internet address. Domino responds with an error along the lines of "RFC821 address format only" when I try that.
You *can* put it in that quoted format in the location document, but it then gets washed away overnight by the address in the person record and replaced with the unquoted address, which looks a bit messy.
A few other users have posted the same problem up recently on the LDD forums, but no answer from Lotus yet. Is it a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, that's right.
And I don't see how it could be happening either. But it is happening. Whatever goofy string I put into my person record over-writes the address in the location doc.

This doesn't happen to the 5.0.9 clients, BTW. Just the new 6.0.1 clients.
It is related to teh Profile functionality. R6 is much more aggressive about pushing Profile information back down to the user. It isn't so much an overnightthing as an every-time-you-log-in thing.
To completely disable profile updating for your PC, you can rename ndyncfg.exe
You can protect a particular location document via a choice on the Action menu.
It shouldn't really be a big deal as to what gets placed in the Location doc Internet Address field, as you can have Domino SMTP form a full RFC822 w/quoted portion address.

All I can find in there about internet addressing is how to create Settings docs mandating internet addresses in various formats, e.g.:
Joe Sixpack/Anycompany
...becomes:
JoeSixpack@anycompany.com
Joe.Sixpack@anycompany.com
Joe_Sixpack@anycompany.com
etc. Nothing about suppressing overwriting of the address from the person record to the Location doc, and no way to produce an address in person record using the format:
"Joe Sixpack" <jsixpack@anycompany.com>
The problem is we use sendmail for our external SMTP, not Domino, and the users' internet addresses already exist. We don't mind setting them manually in the location doc, but we would need to suppress overwrites form the person record.
I think until Domino allows us to implement this setting in Policies, we need to shut all policies off. We were only pushing out about 5 mandatory settings anyway, so no big deal I guess. When I disable the policies, the problem goes away.
It could be that is a setting that you can't override. Do you absolutely need the quoted part of the address? if not, then rather than update all location docs, update all person docs instead, and let things flow from there.
You can also disable updates to the location doc without disabling anything else that gets pushed.
Well looks like I awarded those points too quickly. It's not a policy problem.
I tried switching off ALL policies, but my location preferences keep getting over-written: the unquoted email address, and browser set to IE external.
Here's a theory: maybe the previous settings are getting cached someplace client-side, and restored?
I see that Notes 6.0.1 CF2 has just been released. I'll see if that helps, because this seems like a bug to me.
Two choices:
1) rename ndyncfg.exe at the client, to disable all retrievals. Even if this is not the ultimate solution, you might want to test this to cofnirm that it is the "push config" component that is doing this, even though yuo turned that off.
2) WIth the location document in EDIT mode, chose Actions -> Advanced -> Set Update Flag. This is SUPOPSED TO prevent push config from acting on that particular location document.

When you refer to the Location document, do you mean the users' Location documents that are stored in their private address books? If so, I don't see how these could get overwritten, since the Domino server does not really see the local databases on each user's workstation.
