The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Moving Domino R5 to new machine with new OS, IP, Name and in new Domain

Hi,

I have the unenviable task of having to move my domino server onto a new box that’s in a new domain, has a new name, a new OS and a new IP address.

I have moved other domino servers to new machines before, so am aware of how to go about doing this – move data directory to new machine, move notes.ini & server.ini etc.  But I have never had to do this with all of the extra changes as described above.

The current box is NT 4 and the new box will be WIN2000, I’m not aware of any issues moving from NT to 2000, but that’s not to say there aren’t any!

It's the IP and domain changes that give me most concern.  If anything is connecting to domino via IP address then obviously they will no longer be able to connect if we change the IP.  I am fairly certain that all clients don't use the IP to connect, but I am concerned about other servers.

I am in contact with administrators of other servers to ensure they update their records, but should I also be aware of any other IP hiccups/issues that I am likely to stumble across along the way?

Also changing the systems domain name is somewhat of an unknown quantity so I do have worries that there could also be issues here.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

250 points for this as it’s important to me and, as I’m in the dark about a lot of this, I reckon it’s difficult as well!
