As I mentioned in your other post, I don't thik there is a block list in 4.6... that software is out of date by five years!

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-02 at 07:03:26ID: 11212419

R4.6 doesn't have an elaborate blocking mechanism. There is very little to be configured. What you should check is the Notes Log, under miscellaneous, if other (mail-)server try to contact yours. You might see lines as
123.123.123.123 connected
123.123.123.123 disconnected, no mail transferred
hopefully with an errormessage.

If this happens, that means that mail IS offered to your server but your server refuses them If this DOESN'T happen, it might be that your server is blacklisted by your mail-provider, e.g. because you allow relaying of mails.

Qwaletee: did I miss a post? There might be no block list, there certainly is a black list ;)

Another question to be answered first: what mail method do you use? I assume you have a Domino server, but if you receive your mail through the Domino-server, what version of Domino do you have? It all depends on the server version instaleld.

If, on the other hand, you use POP3 on your local system, we've got to think in a totally different direction.

is this it? "Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 4.6.6.".

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-03 at 01:42:06ID: 11220188

Right. If you have Release 4.6.6, there's no point in installing the Notes R6 client on your system. All mail is handled by your server, and there is not very much to configure in R4. Is an upgrade to R6 out of the question?

Did you already check the Miscellanous-view in the Notes log-db? If you ask a friend to send you a mail at a certain time, you should see in the log if something has been done with it. Couldn't you ask your friend to post here the result of the mail, with the errormessage? We're rather in the dark here...

Firstly, you need to give a lot more information. I already asked a lot of questions, but you answered none of them. I repeat:
- how do you receive your mail, via a Domino-server, directly from your ISP, or any other way?
- if via a Domino-server, what's the release of that server?
- if the release of that server is below R5, then forget it: there must be another reason.
- if still via the server, did you check the Notes Log on that server for error-messages?
- what happens if you send yourself a mail, from the Internet? do you receive that one?
- what is the reply you get, what errormessage?

What you should do is follow EVERY step of the mail chain towards you. There's no point in replacing your BMW 2002 with a Mercedes 500 SLC when you have no fuel to run it.

So, you see, it's got nothing to do with File/User Preferences, but all with a methodical approach of the problem. Answer these questions and we'll guide you through the process. Persist in replacing your Notes, and you won't hear a think from me anymore. It's not a threat, but I've got better things to do.

- how do you receive your mail, via a Domino-server, directly from your ISP, or any other way?
(VIA DOMINO SERVER)

- if via a Domino-server, what's the release of that server?
(DOMINO RELEASE 4.6.6)

- if the release of that server is below R5, then forget it: there must be another reason.
(REALLY?)

- if still via the server, did you check the Notes Log on that server for error-messages?
(YUP, NO ERROR)

- what happens if you send yourself a mail, from the Internet? do you receive that one?
(YES I WAS ABLE TO RECEIVED IT, I HAVE ALSO TRACE ALL THE SERVER IT GOES)

- what is the reply you get, what errormessage?
(NO ERROR AT ALL)

I was able to e-mail our former administrator and this is what he said

"block e-mail are stored on the subscriber end ( meaning third party , not amkor ).

The list of blocked accounts cannot be viewed
even by the local administrator.

Its not situated in any manner sa Notes System.

I got a hunch that they have placed another wall
in e-mail using the Lotus Notes 6 server. Sorry,
but my knowldege is scoped within 4.6 , I have
not played around the Notes 6 server.

In your case, I think the account you used was
blocked? Whoever blocked it? I may never know..
was it that long it was blocked to enter amkor
domain?

But there is a way around, via whitelist.. but
whitelist request would go trough detailed check
and approval. At present, I have no idea who is
incharge on that, day prior my last day, my
access was removed on it."

is he telling us the truth?

Great! As I said earlier, the server version is < R5, so there is nothing special to configure. Those were the good old days where there was no sin amongst us ;) The next step you did as well, you tested if a mail from the outside world could be received by your server (you didn't send yourself a Notes-mail, did you? I said specifically from the Internet, so from a Hotmail-account or so). Assuming you handled everything correctly, we now know that your server can receive mail from the Internet.

As far as we can see now, the problem is not yours but your friends'. Next question is: why doesn't their mail arrive at the server? I'd very much like to see the error report they get when they send you a mail.

Important: can you ask one of them to send you a mail, and then paste the error report here??

The mail from your former Admin I cannot completely understand. Between the lines I see that you are one in a larger organisation with multiple servers, maybe even multiple Notes servers. If that is so, what is the TOTAL trace of the mail you got? If there is a Domino R6 server somewhere in the list of servers, then it might be possible that mail is refused there. Whether you have access to that server is something you could investigate. You could call those Admins maybe. Best shot is the error report from one of your friends, so you can see where it bounces.

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-05 at 21:28:46ID: 11242246

you dont understand, there some e-mail address that can get trough and others cannot. for example, I have 2 e-mail account domain is yahoo. esori1 and esori2. Both are working fine, the admin block the esori1 and they do not know that I have other account w/c is the esori2. I has able to received from my esori2 except from esori1. there are no error msgs here.

I can access any server. Ok, please tell me how can view step by step the block list and unblock it. Notes ver 4.6.6 or beta ver 6.0. thanks

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-05 at 21:34:38ID: 11242257

Where is this....in ver 4.6.6 or in ver 6.0 beta release

Router/SMTP->RestrictuionsAndControls->SMTPInboundControls->there is a field called: Deny messages from the following internet addresses/domains:in this field check whether yahoo.com is blocked or ur friends email addressess.

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-06 at 02:09:50ID: 11242758

I do understand everything you're telling me. I'm just a very methodical guy, and I don't shoot at everything than passes by. What you say puzzles me though: you have 2 Yahoo-accounts, one is blocked but the other is going through?? Which would mean that not all of Yahoo are blocked. Very strange!

Please be so kind to find in Notes the mail you did receive, in the view, so do not open it. Open the Document Properties box (Alt-Enter) and look for fields with the name Received. If you look at them, they contain all the names of the nodes that the mail passed on the way to you. Any of those nodes could block you. You could maybe influence the Domino-servers that were in the path.

By the way: did you get an errormessage in Yahoo on the mail you sent from esori1?

If you want to, send me an email (see my EE-profile) and I'll send you one back. Let's hope it bounces.

Okay, about the SMTP Inbound Controls, yes, they serve to block incoming mail and mail relays, but only on the Domino-server connected to the Internet. Is there anything in the fields on that page? Can you post it here?

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-06 at 07:38:14ID: 11243610

Ahh, I see.. The reason that my esori2 was not block, because I was not using that then. They have't block it yet..

There are no error msg since there are no problem in the 1st place, only block. Ok, I will send you an e-mail tomorrow.

by: qwaleteePosted on 2004-06-07 at 08:41:55ID: 11250440

Your former admin has already asnwered your question.  A third party is doing the blocking.  Pursue that.  That would either be the ISP or a higher levelcorporate IT function.

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-08 at 06:16:48ID: 11259579

i think its the  higher level corporate IT. any conter measure?

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-08 at 06:49:31ID: 11259874

Why do you think lots of banks have Lotus Notes/Domino? ;)

> i think its the  higher level corporate IT.
So you still aren't sure? And what do you mean when you say mail is blocked? I'd like to know what happens when it is blocked, what does anybody see and how do you know it is blocked? NB What DOESN'T happen is NOT interesting.

by: qwaleteePosted on 2004-06-08 at 12:29:18ID: 11263430

Speak to the central IT folks, and they can probably hel you figure it out. They probably have detailed logs on the SMTP server that sends you your messages, and can determine whether they are blocking it, or it never arrived, and where to go from there.

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-09 at 07:15:26ID: 11269993

they are doing it... blocking mails to my inbox.. another example, a common freinds of ours sent e-mail, he got it  and I dont..

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-09 at 08:02:31ID: 11270623

What did they say when you asked them why you or your friends are banned?

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-10 at 06:34:33ID: 11279163

because there company is our competitor. Topic are  not business related issue. We just want to keep in touch.

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2004-06-10 at 08:27:42ID: 11280380

Easy (but you didn't get it from me!):
- get an email address externally that you forward to your internal address
- ask him to send you mail to the new external address

by: qwaleteePosted on 2004-06-14 at 09:13:53ID: 11307869

It would still block on source address.  Instead, SEND from new accounts.

Your company is shortsighted in its e-Mail policy.  Pretty much every company I've ever been at has had communication going on with its competitors... joint bids, legal issues, inductry association member communication, etc.

by: esoriPosted on 2004-06-18 at 23:40:23ID: 11350032

but I they already used to that e-mail addy eh.

by: qwaleteePosted on 2004-06-22 at 13:37:39ID: 11373690

Too bad.  They are blocked.  End of story.
