Cannot send mail to domain's with multiple MX

Hello,
I understand this might be a simple question for you guys, I am new in Lotus Domino environment and just learning the basic's starting off with the messaging part of it. This is in a lab environment not in a production environment.
The problem is that domino is able to route mail to most of the internet domain's for example hotmail.com, rogers.com and so on but when i try to send mail to "rogers.blackberry.net" or "rci.rogers.com" on the domino console i get error messages that it could not deliever mail to the server, might be having network problems or the server is down.
I can send mail to these domains from my exchange server's but unable to from the domino box. When doing an nslookup and set type to MX it resolves for rogers.blackberry.net and shows multiple mx. Which is normal but its confusing why domino is not able to route mail to these domains. I know for sure that the domain's are not blocking any thing as i work for them.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
