Getting A selection in a view within a date range

How would I go about doing this
I want the selection of a view to be able to give only dates within a date range
The problem is that the date range is not specific
For instance
My Documents have a date field that shows the date the field was modified
the date is in the following format (for example)
01/13/2006 12:00:00 AM EST

I want the view to show me the documents that were modified between the following range

(last month)/05/(This year but if it the current month is january then it would be last year)  AND
(current month)/05/(This year)

The reason for this is that my agent is going to run every fifth of the every month and the agent gets a view with modified documents to export to excel. So all I need is a view that will select the documents modified from the fifth of last month to the fifth of this month

Hope it's understandable

Thanks

Good options Sjef,

However, neither provide a view that shows exactly what will be exported.  I dislike view that use @Today too, and I agree they can be slower.  But unless you have thousands of documents or more the only real annoyance is that the blue refresh icon never goes away.
It's most likely a hidden view, so stuff the refresh icon :) The space used by "my" view will be larger, but it's ready the moment it is to be used. Again, my 2 cents...
