"Error transfering to server1:SMTP protocol returned a permanent error 554 relay rejected for policy reasons

i have the SMTP inbound controls on server1 configuration document as follows:
Allow messages from external internet domains to be sent only to the following internet domains: ,<domain name>

Deny messages from external internet domains to be sent to the following internet domains:

Allow messages only from the following external internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains:<ip address of server 2>

Deny messages from the following external internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains:

On server 2,i have the configuration setup as follows

Does Server2 use SMTP to send mail to Server1, or does it use the Notes protocol? Do these servers have different domains?

by: YemisiPosted on 2006-01-25 at 05:46:19ID: 15785919

No,below is the configuration for server 2.

SMTP allowed within the local internet domain:      Disabled

They have the same domain name.

Thanks

In the configuration on server 1...I would add the IP address of server 2 to the field "Exclude these connecting hosts from anti-relay checks"

by: YemisiPosted on 2006-01-25 at 07:06:40ID: 15786706

this is no field like that in domino 5.0.9

Thanks

Some links for you to read:

If you're on R5, I would setup the old fashioned routing by creating an SMTP connection document for server 1 and have server 2 use native notes routing to server 1 then out to the internet.

Also, do you have an Internet DOmain document set up properly ?

by: YemisiPosted on 2006-01-26 at 03:19:03ID: 15794131

Thanks guys,

Sjef, ive seen the links but the situation is different,we use nrpc between server 1 and server2 and what brwwiggins suggested is what i have done.

Sys expert, can u please explain further ur comment?

Notes admin says create a foreign smtp domain document and a smtp connection document to associate the 2?
is that it??

Please your urgent assistance is required?

Thanks all,appreciate it.

Somehow I think that your system is different from what you tell. AFAIK, an error 554 is returned on incoming SMTP mail. Not on NRPC mail. Could you please check the error log of Server1, to see whether the message is returned by Server1 itself or by the destination server at the other end? Who generates the 554?

by: YemisiPosted on 2006-01-26 at 05:07:39ID: 15794663

server 1,i included it in my error message:see below

Error transfering to server1:SMTP protocol returned a permanent error 554 relay rejected for policy reasons

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2006-01-26 at 05:15:11ID: 15794723

But then you send your mail through SMTP, and NOT through NRPC!

Or am I completely mistaken??

by: YemisiPosted on 2006-01-26 at 07:38:39ID: 15796007

thank u all guys,i got the answer.

The problem was that i needed to setup a foreign domain document and link to an smtp connection document.Since server 2 connects to server via nrpc.
Refer to notes admin help 6 on ''Sample mail routing configurations".

Thanks a lot.
