The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

LotusScript: Insert Column in Excel Worksheet?

Asked by ccromp in Lotus Notes

Tags: excel, insert, lotusscript, column

I found a handy LotusScript class to perform some simple functions on an Excel file.

http://www.11tmr.com/11tmr.nsf/d6plinks/MWHE-6AVMHV

I'm starting with an Excel worksheet as a template and I want to be able to insert some new column in the middle of the template.

Can anyone direct me to the proper line or two of code to insert a new column at a certain location? (so that the other columns shift to the left)

I tried recording and viewing a macro... here's what I got:

Columns("S:S").Select
Range("S4").Activate
Selection.Insert Shift:=xlToRight

The above, however, is not compatible with the code I'm trying to use. (I did find out that the "xlToRight" constant is -4161).   I'd like to add a simple "insertColumn" function to the ExcelReport class referenced in the above link, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Please help.

What I have so far is a spreadsheet with people's names as rows in the left column. I need to be able to add new columns to the spreasheet.

Because there are columns in the far right I need to keep, I need to be able to dynamically insert columns in the middle.

I am using the following an ExcelReport Class with the following functions:

Sub new( xlFilename , isVisable )
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.application")
xlApp.Workbooks.Open xlFilename
xlApp.Visible = isVisable
strFilePath = Replace(xlFilename, ".xls", "2.xls")
End Sub

Function insertData( intSheet As Integer , row As Integer , column As Integer , value As String )
xlApp.Workbooks(1).Worksheets( intSheet ).Cells( row , column ).Value = value
End Function

Function getData( intSheet As Integer , row As Integer , column As Integer ) As String
On Error Goto err_hdl
getData = xlApp.Workbooks(1).Worksheets( intSheet ).Cells( row , column ).Value
End Function

***********
But I want to add the following function and don't know how:

Function insertColumn(intSheet As Integer , beforeColumn As Integer )
'??????
End Function
