SMTP Error 550 #5.1.0 Address Is Rejected

Looking for help with this error. I have two Domino servers that send mail out to the internet via SMTP, and I want to route all mail through an IronPort device that's been added to the network. When I add in the address of the IronPort to the messaging configuration doc, in the "Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain field", I get a delivery failure with the error that's in the subject line (550 #5.1.0 Address is Rejected). We also have an Exchange server on the network that can supposedly relay mail through the IronPort device, so I'm not sure if it's Domino that's kicking back the error and it's not even getting to the IronPort, or if the error is coming back because the IronPort is rejecting the messages. Any ideas? When I look at the mail routing events, I see the Domino server try to transfer the messages to the ip of the IronPort, but then it comes back with the error message. Thanks in advance for any help.

Open the received mail, click View /Show/Page Source. There you can see exactly what the route was for that mail, and which instance sent it.

Right...I've been in there to see and I guess maybe I'm just confused by what I'm seeing there.  Here's what's returned if I view the source:

Content-Type: message/delivery-status

Reporting-MTA: dns;xxxxx.xxxxxxxxx.com  (*the fully qualified domain name of the server from the server doc*)

Final-Recipient: rfc822;<carl.aho@gmail.com>
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: smtp;192.168.155.7  (*ip address of the ironport device*)
Diagnostic-Code: X-Notes; 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected


So, with the diagnostic code coming after the Remote-MTA entry, does that tell me that it's the IronPort device kicking back the error?  Or, since the reporting MTA is our Domino server, does that mean the error is coming back from there?

I think it is the ironport.

Have you set up your Notes servers as allowed addresses on the ironport device ?

If not, it will reject mail from them.

You need to add your mail server's ip address to the Ironport Relay list.
