Visibility Issue

I know there is some simple thing that I am missing here, but I have a DB which has default reader access, I have a form which has an Author field which is referencing the name in a Mgr field. When the tester who is not in the ACL but is named in the mgr field which should give him author access. When he tests, he does only see the record which has him in the Mgr field, but it does not allow him to edit the record. Why would he not have access to edit with the Author field rights.

If default is reader, then he will not be able to edit the document. You can add his name in the acl and make sure he has author access

The database ACL sets the MAXIMUM access allowed for a user.

The document's Authors and Readers fields only REFINE the database ACL.

In other words, since the user is setup as a "Reader" in the database ACL, that is the highest level of access that he can have to any document regardless of the contents of the Authors field.  If you want to use Authors fields, then the user must have "Author" or higher access in the database ACL.

NOTE: If you give a user "Editor" access in the database, that user can edit any document regardless of whether he is listed in an Authors field.

You guys are both right on this one, I was thinking that the field would add onto the ACL access, I will make the default Author and I think I should be good.
