Best Practices for Upgrading from Lotus notes and domino 5 to 8

We currently are running Lotus Notes 5.0.11 on the client side and Domino 5 and 6 on the server side. The domino server running version 6 is on a DMZ, while the other running 5 is on the LAN. I started testing by installing Domino 8.5 on a different server running Windows Server 2003 and then installed all Notes clients 8.5.1 on a laptop running XP w/sp2. I thought I would copy the nsf files to the 2003 server, but does anyone have a better suggestion? The current servers are NT and do not have enough space to run an upgrade on them.
