Depends....
Using notes at home? If so, do you have a notes server installed at home?
Are you carrying a notebook to/from work? Or can you access your mail at work from home (using internet or direct dial-up)?
Is this a 1-time action or are you planning periodic updates?

Your mailfile can be found in two ways:
1:
In the bottom right cornet of the screen there is a location mentioned. Default is "Office". Regardless of the name, click "edit current" (bottom option). You'll find a home/mail server and a mail filename.
2:
In your organisation's name & addressbook, in the person view, you should find a document with your name on it. If you open it, you'll (again) find the mailserver and mailfile (this time without ".nsf")

But in order to help you, I need answers to the above questions....

hello crak, If needs be, I will install notes on my laptop (to which I want to transfer all my mails), By default I use Outlook 2003 on the laptop.

Yes this is a one time action. And no I can't access the mail over the internet.

Exactly the scenario that I was afraid of! I was hoping for a notes-notes scenario with a laptop bridging the two, or some way to connect both worlds.
There are tools to do the conversion, but I have no experience with those. I wonder if it requires a server... Could be quite a hassle for a one timer!
I'll invite a few friends over from the Lotus Notes topic area....

Hello

The .nfs is about 200 megs,

Anyway I've been reading some other posts and it seems this is a very easy task, All that is required is to export the DB from notes i.e. tab deliminated text file, then import it into outlook.

I'll give that a go tommorrow and let you know

Regards

That makes it a whole lot easier!
Preserving lay-out, include attachments etc. would require a different approach.
Remember that there are two ways to export: lotus script (kind of VB) and view export.
Good luck. If you need a hand, you know where to contact me!

by: auk_iePosted on 2004-01-26 at 15:04:54ID: 10204986

Yeah that does look like a problem, The CSV text files will not be able to store the attachments. Damn.
Maybe the easiest way is to install lotus notes on a PC at home and copy over the nsf file?

by: CRAKPosted on 2004-01-27 at 01:31:19ID: 10207875

Probably.
Best is to create a local copy first and to modify its access control list (ACL) to gain sufficient access as "default" (=any) user. This may prevent restrictions to the id file used at work.
Once you have the file at home, you could perhaps temporarily install the notes/domino server to retrieve all mail into outlook (mind that thsi probably doesn't retrieve calendar entries and/or sent mail). Or dig some deeper for the conversion tool! In customised installations it can be installed or left out. Not sure what default installation does! Anyway, after conversion you would no longer be restricted to the use of notes. You could remove server and/or client from your system. I bet that's what you really want!

>> hello crak, If needs be, I will install notes on my laptop (to which I want to transfer all my mails), By default I use Outlook 2003 on the laptop.

auk_ie,

You can surely pull your Lotus Notes mails to Outlook/Outlook Express. This is really easy to do. There are two scenarios possible. May be you are lucky and POP3 service at your office server is running. In that case you can simply take your Laptop to your office, connect it to the server using POP3 and fetch mails from it for your mail box. This is the easiest solution.

But in case you can not carry your Laptop to your office OR if POP3 service is not running AND you cant request your administrator to do so temporarily. In case, he doesn't use the following procedure.

1. When your Lotus Notes client is open right click on your workspace.
2. Click on Databae > New copy
3. In the file name box type in "C:\Mymail.nsf"
4. Clear the "Access Control List" check box
5. Copy this file C:\Mymail.nsf and burn it in a CD-ROM and take it home
6. Download an evaluation copy of Lotus Domino/Notes
7. Install the server (Worry not, its not very difficult). By default POP3 and SMTP services are enabled, don't change that setting.
8. Create an account and use this .nsf file (remove the read only attribute) as the mail file for the user.
9. Connect to your local server using this ID and synchronise the account.
10. Bingo! You have your mails in Outlook 2003 now.

Incidentally, this work with any standard mail client. You could even choose Eudora/Netscape or Outlook express to do this.

Ranjeetrain - wow it certainly is NOT as easy as you make it seem.  Installed the server, but you need the domino administrator.  I cant find that anywhere and for the first time in a while feel like I have no clue what's going on.
