phyllis - If you mean can you print out your address book from Organiser the answer is very definitely yes. In fact if you have installed the whole of Lotus Smart Suite correctly you will find that you can print out the addresses in exactly the format you want. I used Orgainser for many years at work where I have a leather diary of rather unusual dimensions (it's german!) so I found that I could specify the page size and margins precisely to work with my diary. I could also do the same for the diary pages.

Go to the diary section and select File/Print and then follow all the options until you have what you need.

Hope that helps

How did you get on printing your address database?

by: phyllisjclarkPosted on 2004-05-17 at 15:22:57ID: 11093643

Hi Patrick,
I thnk I will need to reinstall the entire suite as it is the Addresses in the Lotus Smart Center I was wishing to print out.  However, several years ago I used the Organizer as well and think it is best I revert back to that.
Thank you so much for your folow-up,  sorry I did not  reply sooner, however, I am in Africa using a very unstabe satellite connection.
Thanks again,
Phyllis

Phyllis - I am most impressed that you are still managing to keep in touch even through a sattelite link. I've not looked in for the last couple of days thus the delay in responding.

I think you may well need to re-install the whole suite. I had difficulties at work on this specific issue as our then outsourced IT failed to install the necessary files to make it all work properly. I can assure you that once it all works you will be able to tailor your printouts to your needs. It takes a bit of getting used to but once done you can return to the same settings time and again without having to re-do it.

I liked it but our co. is now planning to remove it completely because they are in love with Microsoft products. I can honestly say that since they adopted them we have had email junk mail and viruses aplenty. Almost no virus creator can be bothered to make something to attack the Lotus Suite as relatively few people use it. It must be less fun for them I suppose? So far I can see no advantage in using Microsoft software in the office over Lotus other than the fact that now more people are used to MS software and it means they are already up to speed when they join the co.

Anyhow enough of that - hope you crack the problem. Be interested to hear how you get on.

"to make something to attack the Lotus Suite as relatively few people use it."

This is not a true statement. The SmartSuite has millions of users inside major corporations and it is very popular in Europe. It is not as visible currently because Lotus/IBM is not offering it at retail outlets. This is a marketing decision because it costs a lot to make the retail boxed product and advertise it, and most business people do not buy office suites in retail stores anyway. They get it with a new computer, or in corporate offices the IT organization makes the decisions.

As for the addresses in the SmartCenter, they may either be in an Organizer file or in a text file. The default text file location is C:\Lotus\work\smartctr\Address.txt in the newer versions of the software. It is a comma-delimited test file which could be opened in 1-2-3 to put each field in a column or in Lotus Approach to create a database.
