Sometimes, you get better results with an HTML-table, with lines suppressed.

It is the content of an external file, c:\signature.htm. Copy/paste the code in a file, tell Notes in the Preferences that the file is the signature, and try again.

Very strange... My configuration works, and has worked for the last x years: the file with the HTML-code above, Tools/Preferences/Signature, select "Automatically append ...", select "HTML or Image File", and my filename C:\regards.htm. The extension is important, should be htm or html.

If it still doesn't work, what version of Notes do you use?

I use Lotus Notes 7 on Windows XP

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2007-07-31 at 12:55:08ID: 19603628

Okay. I checked the code that gets the signature. The content of the signature is fixed while saving the Preferences. It could be that your Preferences are corrupt, or that you have multiple Preferences documents. To check the first, try to change the Signature preferences to the first option, type in some silly text, and save/close it. Reopen the preferences, select the second option, insert the correct filename and save it again. Then create a new memo. What happens?

The second is more complex, it involves some LotusScript code to find out how many Preferences documents you have, and to remove one of them. I'll try to find a suitable piece of code for you...

You could download NotesPeek to check the internals of that mail database, to see if there are multiple calendar profile documents.

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2007-08-01 at 00:44:08ID: 19606856

Ah :-) With NotesPeek you can look inside Notes databases, at a very low level. Just start it, in the Notes data directory (required to find the notes.ini file) and open your database. Check which and how many profile documents exist.

by: gram77Posted on 2007-08-01 at 04:59:25ID: 19607913

Can't really understand what you said. Can you give me a step by step method. (Please don't leave any step)
I am new to notes.

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2007-08-01 at 05:13:29ID: 19607988

Okay, but please forgive occasional missteps...

1) Start a command interpreter (assuming you have a Windows client), so you'll see C:\>
2) Go to the Notes data directory (e.g. CD \Program Files\Lotus\Notes\Data)
3) Start NotesPeek
4) Open your server (+)
5) Open the mail directory (+)
6) Open your mail database (+)
7) Open Profiles (+)
now you might see some (or many) profile documents.

There should be only 1 document called calendarprofile.

 |-->tempvars-

by: gram77Posted on 2007-08-01 at 07:17:46ID: 19608961

are you sure this will rectify my problem? I hope deleting any entry would not land me up in deeper problems?

by: sjef_bosmanPosted on 2007-08-01 at 07:48:21ID: 19609254

Deleting one won't do any good, apparently there's but one calendarprofile, and that's how it should be. One more line of investigation closed...

Did you check any further, with NotesPeek? Look at the Signature field in the calendarprofile document, mine says:

name      "Signature"
type      Text
class      Text
flags      Summary
length      16
value      "C:\\signature.htm"

And SignatureOption should contain the value "2"

But I suppose they'll contain the right values... If that's the case, I really don't know what's the matter. You used Notepad or a similar editor to create the .htm file I hope? Silly question...

by: gram77Posted on 2007-08-02 at 02:46:52ID: 19615541

sjef_bosman:
I wonder why is signature_1 with length=0 doing?
signature_2 resembles signature.

Under Profiles --> Calendarprofile, I have
Signature
Signature_1
Signature_2
SignatureOption

Signature:
Name:Signature
type:Text
class:Text
flags:Summary
length:61
value: "c:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Desktop\\signature.htm"

Signature:
Name:Signature
type:Text
class:Text
flags:Summary
length:61
value: "c:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Desktop\\signature.htm"

Signature_1:
Name:"Signature_1"
type:Text
class:Text
flags:Summary
length:0
value: ""

Signature_2
Name:"Signature_2"
type:Text
class:Text
flags:Summary
length:61
value: "c:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Desktop\\signature.htm"

SignatureOption
Name:"SignatureOption"
type:Text
class:Text
flags:Summary
length:1
value: "2"

Baffled...

Practically the only thing left to try is the Notes debugger. The idea would be
- to switch the debugger on,
- start creating a new mail,
- when the debugger kicks in, set a breakpoint at InsertSignature in the scriptlibrary CoreEmailClasses
- continue execution
- when execution stops at the breakpoint, slowly proceed and check values in variables etc.

Tedious, I know, but I don't know any other way.

by: qwaleteePosted on 2007-08-02 at 06:33:20ID: 19616702

If you switch the signature to "text" instead of "HTML or image" and enter some text below there, click OK, and open a new memo, do you get the text signature?

Does this also not work when you click REPLY?

by: gram77Posted on 2007-08-02 at 07:55:45ID: 19617509

A text signature works when i select reply and create a new memo

by: qwaleteePosted on 2007-08-02 at 12:05:36ID: 19619888

OK, so that indicates that the profile is being processed -- you changed the signature settings, it changed what you inserted signature contains.  Good.  So now, we have to get back to the processed file.

Please change it back to HTML signature, using your original HTML file.  Verify that your signature changes back to HTML.

Then, edit your HTML file, make some small change (say, add or remove your title).  Create another message, verify that the signature changes.  This will confirm that it is actually using the HTML file you think it is using.

If it is in fact using that HTML file, we are finally going to resolve getting the file to result in a signature that is appealing to you.  But first, let's complete the steps above.

by: gram77Posted on 2007-08-02 at 23:27:55ID: 19622936

The signature has changed to HTML.

I also changed the text of the HTML signature and I could see the changes in Lotus 7 New Memo.

However, when i paste your html code onto the .htm file, the text appears with all tags

Microsoft Word

Try Notepad, or any plain text editor, or make absolutely sure that Word writes a plain textfile!
