Asked by: chekfu

Your prompt reply is very much appreciated.

All of a sudden, it happened to my Lotus Notes 7. I guess it was after the Domino Server restarted. Right now, my local replica shown 300 unread messages which is correct. My server database is shown 6000 unread messages.

How do I make the same for both databases got 300 unread messages according to my local replica copy?

On the db (application in v7) properties, last tab - property "Replicate unread marks:" select option "All servers".

Thanks mbonaci. To clarify...

I should right-click the properties on my mailbox database on server or local replica copy.

Then, follow-by Database > Properties > "last tab, Replicate unread marks" option to All Servers.

Yes, on your workspace right-click your mail db icon and choose Application - Properties.
Then, on the last tab, in the section "Unread mark options", field named "Replicate unread marks" select option "All servers".

appreciated! I give it a try tomorrow. update the status soon.

mbonaci's steps are correct. It may be our environment but I noticed that I had to set the setting on both the replicas (local and server). When I changed it on one, it did not replicate to the others

guys, I've tried the steps given by mbonaci. Also applied the same as brwwiggins encountered.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Have you replicated db after setting the property?

by: chekfuPosted on 2009-03-25 at 06:29:20ID: 23979142

Yes, I did manually run replica. The number of unread message is still the same.

I leave the machine for two hours. No changes as well.

Here are the instructions from Admin Help:

Synchronizing unread marks before replicating
Before enabling replication of unread marks, ensure that the unread marks in the database and in all of its replicas are synchronized. If you enable replication of unread marks and the unread marks are not already synchronized between the database and all of its replicas, those unread marks will not be synchronized unless you do so manually. Once unread marks are synchronized and the replicate unread marks feature is enabled, the unread marks remain synchronized.
Use one of these methods to synchronize unread marks:
Select the messages whose status you are changing, and then use the Insert key to toggle between read and unread for any selected messages.
Select the messages whose status you are changing, and then click Edit - Unread Marks - Mark Selected Read or Mark Selected Unread.
Enabling replication of unread marks
  1.      From the Domino Administrator, click the Files tab.
  2.      Select the database(s) for which you are enabling the replication of unread marks.
  3.      From the Tools pane, click Database - Advanced Properties.
  4.      Click Select and then click the check box to left of Replicate unread marks.
  5.      Do one of these:
To enable replication of unread marks for the selected database(s) across all servers, click All server.
To enable replication of unread marks for any cluster containing a replica of the database, click Clustered server only.
  6.      Click OK.
Disabling replication of unread marks
  1.      From the Domino Administrator, click the Files tab.
  2.      Select the database(s) for which you are disabling the replication of unread marks.
  3.      From the Tools pane, click Database - Advanced Properties.
  4.      Click the "Select" check box to the left of Replicate unread marks and then click the Replicate unread marks check box to remove the check mark from that check box.
  5.      Click OK.

Unfortunately, I am not an administrator for Domino server.

I guess your above procedure should work.

Just now, I do not care. I mark all messages as Read for both Replica local copy and my mail file copy.

Just let it be. If it is persist again after some time. I may get my administrator to try your step. Thank you for your reply. Appreciated.

You don't have to be Domino Admin, you only have to follow the instructions under "Synchronizing unread marks before replicating".

Thanks for the points, but why B, may I ask (the reason why unread counts were different is now clear)?

by: chekfuPosted on 2009-03-25 at 07:14:08ID: 23979625

Before your post, I have just marked 6000 from unread to read. and 300 from unread to read too.

Both mail file copy are now clear and no unread messages at all. Anyway, I don't have a chance to try the latest post whether it is working or not. Just marked it NEUTRAL for all.

by: mbonaciPosted on 2009-03-25 at 07:17:27ID: 23979665

You can mark messages unread, just as you marked them read :)
