I have a suspicion that I don't understand the problem correctly but this will do what I think you are asking...

=A3+C3+E3

Past the formula into G3 and H3 then all the rows where you need to calculate.

Hi MrT,
=SUM(IF(INT(COLUMN(A3:F3)/2)*2=COLUMN(A3:F3),A3:F3,0)     Sum the even columns
=SUM(IF(INT(COLUMN(A3:F3)/2)*2=COLUMN(A3:F3),0,A3:F3)     Sum the odd columns
These are array formulas, so you must hold Control + Shift keys down while hitting Enter. Excel will respond by adding curly braces { } surrounding the equations.
Cheers!

Brad

almost the same, but u cud use:
=SUM(IF(MOD(COLUMN(A4:D4),2), A4:D4,0))
and
=SUM(IF(MOD(COLUMN(A4:D4),2), 0, A4:D4))

ps. something interesting i found:
=SUMIF(MOD(COLUMN(A4:D4),2), 0, A4:D4)
doesnt work....excel seems unable to related the 2 array inputs when using SUMIF or COUNTIF.

Both suggestions from byundt and _adj_ will work.  After posting the question, I found a solution that is essentially the same as _adj_.  The suggestion from davidshockley will work if all you have is a small spreadsheet.  I only listed a small example.  My actual spreadsheet is over 100 columns wide so its impractical to put in all of the odd or even columns.  Thanks for the quick response.
