Auto generate Date when writing on a col

Hello, im looking for any kind of macro wich lets me autogenerate the date on a col typing text on another col, i know my english is too bad, but, i'll show you an example in fact to understand it better:

COLS: A | B | C | D ...
content of A: DATE
contenf of B: NAME

Now, i will type the user's name in B Column, B2 for example, when i keydown there will appear in A2 the actual date (with date() function or something else).

Thats what im looking for, and im a 0 in macro programming, so i hope somebody can help me.

in your worksheet right click the sheet tab, select view code. this opens the vbe window. here paste the following code. close the vbe window. bakc in xl try typing something into columnA

If Target.Column = 1 Then Target.Offset(0, 1).Value = Date

R_Rajesh,

the above code puts date in columnb if something is typed in columnA. reading your post again, i see that you want it the other way round.
change the code to this

If Target.Column = 2 Then Target.Offset(0, -1).Value = Date

If you prefer not to use VBA you can type the following in A2:
=IF(B2<>"",DATE(),"")

This gives you today's date if you type something in B2. If B2 contains a blank string (if you have not typed anyting in B2) you will also get a blank string in A2.
