Sebastien,
You are correct that Microsoft licensed the technology from third party developer MapInfo. Here is a link to their current software products: http://extranet.mapinfo.co

Browse All TopicsHi,
In xl 97 and xl 2K, i used to draw maps using the Map control from menu Insert > Object , Microsoft Map. It was a free control coming with the Excel installation cds and was created by MapInfo (if i remember correctly).
In xl 2002 +, i cannot find it anymore, not in excel, not on the cd.
I want to stick with this free control; i do not want to use MapPoint since it is a paying solution.
Any idea if it still exists somewhere in excel or elsewhere, or if it has just just been removed ?
Thank you,
Sebastien

Thank you Brad.
I would have at least expected microsoft to maintain a minimum of functionality on the control. With no shame, they try to push users to get $249 MapPoint :-)

Although it seems like it possible to make it work in 2002, but it's not supported:

Sebastien,
Microsoft did not renew the license for the Map control with Excel 2002 or 2003. You'll need to get it from Excel 2000 or 97.
