The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Automatic generation of hyperlinks and cell formulas based on values in other cells.

Asked by gabrielPennyback in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Tags: cell, hyperlink, value

Hi Brad et al,

I have a spreadsheet with manual entries in columns B and C, and I would like the hyperlinked button in Column A,  and the values in Columns D and E to generate themselves automatically, based on the information in Columns B and C.

         A            B          C          D        E
1    (btn)      INVC01    ACE      WDJ   PASS
2    (btn)      INVC02    ACE      SR     FAIL
                 . . . . . . . . . . . . .
6    (btn)      SCRC06   FORD    FE      N/A

For the hyperlinked "button" in Cell A1 for example, the address is:

      testWorkbooks/ACE/INV/ACE_INV_TestWorkbook.xls#INVC01!A1

Cell D1 is:    ='G:\Project Management\2006\testWorkbooks\ACE\INV\[ACE_INV_TestWorkbook.xls]INVC01'!$B$7

Cell E1 is:    ='G:\Project Management\2006\testWorkbooks\ACE\INV\[ACE_INV_TestWorkbook.xls]INVC01'!$B$9

Thus, if I enter SCRC06 in Cell B6 and FORD in Cell C6, I would like for the button in Cell A6 to automatically generate this address as a hyperlink:

      testWorkbooks/FORD/SCR/FORD_SCR_TestWorkbook.xls#SCRC06!A1

Cell D6 would be:    ='G:\Project Management\2006\testWorkbooks\FORD\SCR\[FORD_SCR_TestWorkbook.xls]SCRC06'!$B$7

Cell E6 would be:    ='G:\Project Management\2006\testWorkbooks\FORD\SCR\[FORD_SCR_TestWorkbook.xls]SCRC06'!$B$9

WHAT COMBINATION OF FORMULAS AND VBA SCRIPT WOULD ACCOMPLISH THIS?

If you can help me accomplish ALL of this (i.e., also being able to take the first three letters of INVC01 or SCRC06 and update only those letters where appropriate...), it's an automatic 500 points.

Thanks,

John
