Comparison of two columns.

How to compaire value of two columns in sheet 1 to same value in sheet 2.
I have list of vendors with their job numbers (one job number may be assigned to various vendors. I want to compaire one vendor and job number with in another sheet, means compaire two columns combination at same time.

Here's an example file showing one way in which it can be done:

It uses formulae like this:

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(C2,Sheet2!$C$2:$C$6,1,FALSE)),"Not found",VLOOKUP(C2,Sheet2!$C$2:$C$6,1,FALSE))

I have also put Conditional Formatting so that Not Found is automatically in red.

You could avoid merging columns on the first sheet by using this forumla. Not sure you avoid merging columns on the second sheet for use with the VLOOKUP function.


=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A2&B2,Sheet2!$C$2:$C$6,1,FALSE)),"Not found",VLOOKUP(A2&B2,Sheet2!$C$2:$C$6,1,FALSE))

Jell,

That doesn't do it because C2:C6 is the merged column on Sheet2. I had considered the A2&B2 approach but there is little to be gained by doing that.

I suggest you keep the merged columns but hide them - (right click on the column letter and select Hide)
