The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

difference of \ or / from Excel 2000 and Excel 2003?

Hey experts-
I have a excel file (1 MB) that holds our serial numbers for our machines, let's call it 'Serial.xls'. In that file we have thousands of links to other related documents (some are PDF's, some are excel files, some are pictures). The problem is we have some Office 2000 and some Office 2003. The computers with Office 2003 don't have much of a problem opening any of the links no matter what. The computers with office 2000 have trouble opening alot of the links. I checked permissions, everything seams ok. This, for example, is what i have noticed below.

*note History is a directory. 07236.xls is a file within the History directory. Serial.xls is in the main directory above History.

When i edit a hyperlink in question I notice
Text to display: History\07236.xls

Address: History/07236.xls

If i go in and change the address from 'History/07236.xls' to 'History\07236.xls' then the office 2000 machines can open and view them (the office 2003 machines can view either way). I have thousands of links, so doing this manually would cause me to lose my sanity.

I'm thinking there's got to be a setting in 2000 to allow for either 'History\07236.xls' or 'History/07236.xls'

I realize the best thing would probably just upgrade our office editions from 2000 to 2003 and be done with it.

Is there anything else i can do?
