Excel Column Width and Data Import

Hi
I've got a problem when importing data into a spreadsheet with columns changing width to accommodate a long line of text which needs to be viewed and is variable in terms of number of characters. I have a range of cells above the imported data that need to stay the same width and size. I've tried importing into merged cells - that doesn't work. Is there any way round this? Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Deb,

Have you tried formatiing the columns in which you will be importing the data to have "Wrap text" checked. To do this.

Select the columns in which you would be importing data. Right click and select "Format Cells". In the Alignment tab check "Wrap Text" aunder Text control and click OK. Then try importing the data.

Yes I have - this works fine until the data is refreshed and then I've got one very wide column again. This has been driving me absolutely nuts.

Okay,

When you give destination cell to import the data there is a button "Properties" on that screen. Click that button to go to the properties window and there uncheck "Adjust Column width" and then import.

This should work.

The selection of the destination cell comes after you finish on the Import data screen.
