The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Batch convert Lotus 123 wk4 workbooks to Excel 2003
Title says it all.  I have a client with over a thousand Lotus 123 wk4 books  that I want to batch convert to Excell 2003 workbooks.  And yes, I know Excel 2003 can read these workbooks, but I want to batch convert them and would like a preferably personally  experienced recommendation of a program to do it.

Incidentally, each of these workbooks have 25 worksheets and I would like to know if there is a way display them in two rows as wk4 does.

Thanks,

Don Beeth

Here is something you can try...put this macro in a module, save the workbook, and run it.  Select 1 wk4 file after you start the macro (at the prompt) and every wk4 file in that same folder will be converted to xls and saved in the same folder that the workbook with this code is in...
Ok...now that I've said what is suppose to happen in theory...I did not test this.  I have no wk4 files to test it on...so there is a good chance it won't work as is and you will have to debug it, or I can later (don't have time right now).  I would suggest copying a few wk4 files to a folder, then run it on the files in that folder to see if it even works...I'll be gone until tonight...sorry...

:-)

Albert,

Have I got this right. Are you saying that by renaming an .xls file .wk4 it will then be readable by Lotus123? I didn't know that - are you sure?

Hi Patrick...no...not exactly...Don wants to convert wk4 files to xls...so I just read the help file and it said just to do "Save As" and save the wk4 files as xls files.  So that's what I wrote the code to do...you'll see in line 25 that it does a "Save As" and is set to save in Excel format...but like I said, I don't know if it will work with the syntax I used....I am going to see if I can find some wk4 files and then test and debug it....don't know what kind of luck I'll have...

ps...
Have you checked your e-mail lately....

:-)

Hello again...
I downloaded a couple of wk4 files and the code worked fine.  I put them both in the same folder and ran the code and it converted them both.  I don't know if the lotus macros will convert or not though if any of your wk4 files have macros.
I did add a line to the code and take out some that were not necessary.  I forgot to add a line to close each workbook after it got saved, so it would open them, do the save as...then open the next one and so on....without closing any of them...so here is the new code:
Remember:
Put this code in a module in an Excel workbook then save the workbook.  The folder where you save the workbook is where the wk4 files will get saved after they are converted to xls.  Your original wk4 files will remain unchanged.
Run the macro...after you select 1 wk4 file, it will then open every wk4 file in that folder and save it as an Excel file.

I will also attach a working file...just download it and save it in a folder (preferrably and empty folder) then run the macro...select a wk4 file and click Open.
(I would copy a few wk4 files to a temporary folder to test this on)

:-)
