Problem with conditional formatting when inserting copied cells

I have a spreadsheet that has some conditional formatting in alternating cells down a column. When I copy a row, and then insert the copied row below the last row, somehow the conditional formatting is copied into every cell in that one column, not just alternating cells as it should be. This is tiresome, as then I have to go and clear the conditional formatting from every second cell in that row. I don't understand why it's not replicating the copied row exactly. Any advice?
