The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Fetching a value based on TWO conditions in two columns? (using Match, Index, etc)

Asked by tonikaram in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Hello.

Small description of the excel sheet in question: it contains dates in column A, a value in column B, and a description in column C.
Column A spans many months and years, but there doesn't need to be a row for every day.
Every month, one donation will take place. This can happen any day of the month but will happen only once a month. The description in column C will be "donation". The value of the donation will be  in column B.

I would like to automatically populate column Z with the donation value found in B for all the rows that correspond to that month of the same year (to be used for calculations in other columns). Instead of copying this value manually to all the rows pertaining to that particular month, I would like the value to be distributed automatically as soon as I type "donation" in the description.

Here's another explanation of the same thing: Let's say it so happens that February 2008 covers rows A200 to A250. In row A215, the donation was received and entered with the description "donation" and its value in B. As soon as I typed "donation", cells Z200 to Z250 automatically switched to that value because two conditions were fuflilled: "donation" was found in column C, and the correct month/year (February 2008) was in column A.
Therefore this should be a combo of Match and Index to accomplish this.

I tried to make it sound simple, it really is, was it clear? Pls ask for more info.

Thanks alot!
