Question

Can no longer print excel files in color.

Asked by: MFHSINC

We used to be able to print excel documents in color. But for the past few weeks we have not been able to do so. We reinstalled the print drivers for our Xerox 7655 copier/printer and set the default to print color. All other programs print in color including microsoft word, and powerpoint. I have reason to believe that it is a problem within excel because on the spreadsheet there is color but in print preview the document shows up as black and white. I am currently using microsoft office 2003, but we also use office xp pro, and office 2000. most of our coputers are runnning on Microsoft XP. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please help, we really need to be able to print excel in color.

Hello MFHSINC,

Try deleting the user profile which is giving the issue and recreate it.

Click Options button in File, Page Setup to see what print settings are set
for that document. Also check if Draft Quality is checked and uncheck it.

And there's this thread: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.excel.misc/browse_thread/thread/8735fda72679c404

In 2007 excell when you go to print preview go to page set up and then at the bottom there is an options button click it and there should be a selection for color or black and white. Hope this helps!

spattewar,
I wish that we could delete the user accounts but we are currently having the problem on all of our computers in our administrative office. If you have any other ideas please let me know. Our minds are jarred, we even called Microsoft, but they wanted us to pay $45 just to talk to a technician.

Will Xerox talk to you? Since it affects the entire office, I am thinking it might be a printer driver issue.

I found the following thread on the Xerox Support web site for your printer:
When Printing Multiple Worksheets From Microsoft Excel, The First Worksheet Prints in Black and White But Remaining Worksheets Print in Color http://www.support.xerox.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=491,E=0000000000756889335,K=646,Sxi=4,Case=obj(6667)

byundt,

We had reason to believe that the xerox drivers were bad too. The xerox repair guy was here to work on one of our black and white copiers. But he told us we would have to call our xerox support guy. Hopefully it is  the drivers and we will be able to get everything straightened out. But I guess we wont know until Tuesday because he is off until then.

by: MFHSINCPosted on 2008-07-02 at 05:57:06ID: 21915835

I finally figured out what the problem was. It was not a problem with the Xerox or the xerox drivers. It was the XP Service Pack 3 that caused excel to not work correctly. After I uninstalled the service pack on my computer I was able to print color. Then I uninstalled it on other machines and they were all able to print in color again. Go figure it was a Microsoft Problem. Since they wanted to charge me $45 to ask my question maybe I should charge them 45 dollars to tell them about the problem. Thank you everyone for your responses.

This is close, but no cigar.
The problem is some update from Microsoft, but not exclusive to SP3. I also have some SP2 machines exhibiting this problem, though removing SP3 did fix the problem on the PC's that did have it.

Apparently there is some update that is rolled into SP3 that is also available separately that causes the problem.

If I get lucky and figure out which one, I'll try and remember to post....
Meanwhile, if anyone else figures out the specific culprit, please post it here.

Thanks.
