The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Addin #NAME? Error Saved On Machine Without Addin Persists On Machine With The Addin

Asked by ebyrne in Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software

Hi Experts,

So here's the situation. I have an excel addin (Bloomberg in this case, but it appears to occur with others), and I create an excel file on a machine where that addin is not available (don't ask, but it's necessary). So, I create the correct formula, but since the addin is not there, I get a #NAME? error, as expected. I then save that file and open it on a machine that does have the addin and where the formula would be valid.

Unfortunately, the error persists, and despite my best efforts (Refresh, change options, change cells the formula references, etc..) I cannot get it to update and reattempt to resolve the formula, thereby resolving the error. The only way I can get it to resolve, is by clicking on that individual formula and hitting enter, as if I had edited it, even though I didn't. You could imagine, in a file with hundreds of lines/formulas, that's not gonna cut it.

So, the question is what can I do either on the original machine to prevent this from happening on the second (settings, formula tricks, whatever), or easily on the second machine to force an update of the entire formula set that would resolve this.

As a side not, if it requires the use of the Excel API that is ok, as that is the original intent. This is just a test problem to illustrate the main issue, but there is a one-one realtionship between the two.
