The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Purchase Order Sequencing

I found this macro on your site and would like to see if it is possible to customize.

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)

   Dim Cell As Range
   Dim FocusCells As Range
   Dim BlankCells As Range
   Dim LastUsedSequenceNumber As Long

   Const LastUsedSequenceNumberName = "LastUsedSequenceNumber"

   On Error Resume Next
   LastUsedSequenceNumber = Application.Evaluate(ThisWorkbook.Names(LastUsedSequenceNumberName).Value)
   Set FocusCells = Intersect(UsedRange.EntireRow, [B4:B65536])
   If FocusCells.Cells.Count = 1 Then
      If Len(FocusCells) = 0 Then Set BlankCells = FocusCells
   Else
      Set BlankCells = FocusCells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks)
   End If
   On Error GoTo 0
   If Not BlankCells Is Nothing Then
      Application.EnableEvents = False
      For Each Cell In BlankCells
         If Len(Cell.Offset(0, 1)) > 0 Then
            If LastUsedSequenceNumber = 0 Then LastUsedSequenceNumber = Application.Max(UsedRange.EntireRow.Columns("A"))
            LastUsedSequenceNumber = LastUsedSequenceNumber + 1
            Cell = LastUsedSequenceNumber
            ThisWorkbook.Names.Add LastUsedSequenceNumberName, LastUsedSequenceNumber
         End If
      Next Cell
      Application.EnableEvents = True
   End If
   Set BlankCells = Nothing
   On Error Resume Next
   Set FocusCells = Intersect(UsedRange.EntireRow, [B4:B65536])
   If FocusCells.Cells.Count = 1 Then
      If Len(FocusCells) = 0 Then Set BlankCells = FocusCells
   Else
      Set BlankCells = FocusCells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks)
   End If
   On Error GoTo 0
   If Not BlankCells Is Nothing Then
      Application.EnableEvents = False
      BlankCells.Offset(0, -1).ClearContents
      Application.EnableEvents = True
   End If

End Sub

This works perfectly with one exception I have a project # that is assigned by separate software that is the prefix to the automated numbering system assigned by this macro. Column #1-Project#, Column #2-Macro assigned #. Most projects have 1-15 purchase order #'s for example:

Project#   Macro#      Vendor
80000          1            Joe Smith
80000          2            Alan Johnson
80001          1            George Washington
80001          2            Andrew Jackson
79999          1            Ringo Star
79999          2            Peter Frampton

I need the macro to restart the sequence whenever the project number changes.

Can this be done?

Thanks,
