Question

Excel speadsheet opens and defaults to a sheet, when click on other sheet it "jumps back" to deafult sheet (once only)

Asked by: CLL

Hi, one of our clients has a Windows 2003 Terminal Server running Office 2007. When opening any excel spreadsheet (2003 xls, 2007xlsx) it will default to say Sheet1, if you then click on any other Sheet it briefly displays that Sheet and then "jumps back" to the default Sheet1. Once this has been done you can then click on any Sheet with no issue. If you close and re-open the (any) Spreadsheet the same issue occurs - again, this only happens once when an alternative Sheet is clicked on, after that no problem. Have tried replicating the issue with one of their Spreadsheets on a different PC (so opening it locally), no issue. Also note that the docs live on an SBS share (mapped drive), tried copying a spreadsheet to the desktop of the Terminal server, so again eliminating any possible network related issue - no problem. Appears to be a fault with Excel/Office on the Terminal server.  No updates availbale for Office. Any ideas??

I can't tell the exact reason why Excel is behaving like that, however I suggest you to follow this:

See if there is any file in:
(Vista)   C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
(XP)   C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
(These are hidden folders)

If any file is found in that folder, move it to some other folder and see if Excel starts properly.

As this is a Terminal Server (Windows 2003) this solution doesn't really apply. However checked All Users and other Users profiles and there are no files in this folder. Still looking for a solution...cheers.
