Where does Excel store the last used tab/cell info?

When you open an Excel spreadsheet with multiple tabs, do some work and then save it, it "remembers" the last tab/cell you were on, so when you open the spreadsheet again, it goes right to that location.

Where does Excel store that info?

I have a spreadsheet that was uploaded to our website. The copy on my local PC works fine, but the copy on the web server goes to some weird tab and cell, and I can't figure out why. I compared the two files in Visual Source Safe, and they are identical.

If anyone can tell me where Excel stores this info, I'd appreciate it, as we'd like the spreadsheet to open in the right location for our customers.

Hello toddhd,

I do not know about the location but what happens if you open the spreadsheet from the website's physical folder, change the selection to what it should be and then close and re-open if from the website?

Not sure again where that data is stored...but as an alternative you can do that by a macro...just insert this code in the thisworkbook module...and as per the code this it will automatically to sheet1-->Range A1...when the workbooks open...

Just as an update - I'm still not sure what was going on, but I deleted the files and recopied them over, and that seems to have "fixed" whatever the problem was.

Oh - saurabh726 - that was what I tried too. :) Works well enough, but it throws a warning about there being a macro in the spreadsheet, and our client just won't have it :)

spattewar - I thought it might be a cache issue too. All I can guess is that something in the filesystem was just "holding on" to a portion of the file somehow.

Even though it didn't solve the problem, I'm going to split points on this because I think the suggestions/solutions presented were good ones.

Yes...thats the one warning which needs to take care of..and all you need to tell the clients that they have to click on enable macros...and i guess they wont mind that...because all you need to do is click...thats it...
