Excel, explorer.exe and shlwapi.dll CPU usage using Windows SP2

I am having an issue where an Excel 2002 add-in is pulling values from external sources (namely Bloomberg financial software pulling real time stock values). After upgrading the computer to XP SP2, when using a number of our custom spreadsheets that pull in external Bloomberg values, explorer.exe CPU usage spikes extremely high and makes the spreadsheet nearly unusable.

Using process explorer I've narrowed it down to shlwapi.dll (component of explorer.exe) that is occupying the CPU usage.

All of the spreadsheets work completely fine with SP1, but when any machine is upgraded to SP2 the shlwapi.dll CPU spike issue occurs.Start Free Trial
