Try this: need to change xls to xlsx if you are using 2007.

MyName = Range("A1").value
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
        "C:\Documents and Settings\User1\My Documents\" & MyName & ".xls", _
        FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
        ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

Public Sub saveit()
MyName = Range("A1").Value
MyFile = ActiveWorkbook.Name
FileTrim = Trim(Left(MyFile, InStr(1, MyFile, ".") - 1))

ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
        "C:\Dumpfile\" & FileTrim & MyName & ".xls", _   '---------whatever path you use
        FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
        ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

End Sub

Hope this helps

You will have to get rid of the        '---------whatever path you use
that I wrote in the forum.  It won't work in the VBA editor.

Hi experts,

I have tried your codes but problem in this is

1. either the file is getting renamed by what ever  written in cell A1 or

2. original file name remains the same & new file is getting generate or

3. I will have put the file name in to the macro,

I just want to add text on cell A1 in existing file name, I am sorry if it is not clear in my previous comments.

Please suggest,

Nilesh.

tnilesh2,

>>I just want to add text on cell A1 in existing file name, I am sorry if it is not clear in my previous comments.

Your comment is still confusing.  As you pointed out to mjsteele001,

>>I want to inclue value of A1 in file name.
>>e.g. Current File name - Sample
>>Value of cell A1 - "ByXYZ"
>>Reqd. New File Name - "SampleByXYZ"
>>Please suggest,

If you add txt to A1 run the macro.  According to our suggestions, it is doing what you ask.  If you chng A1 it would be logical that the file name would change with the new A1 data.

Try this code - it renames the workbook then deletes the previous version, leaving only the newly named book.

Sub Rename()

OriginalName = ThisWorkbook.FullName

MyName = Range("A1").Value
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
        "C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Desktop\" & MyName & ".xls", _
        FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
        ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

Kill OriginalName
End Sub

Hi Experts,

Thanks for support, I have created a work around macro from your codes only which is sufficing the requirement.

Please suggest can we reduce these codes & make it short.

Please suggest,

Thanks,

Nilesh.

Sub Rename()

OriginalName = ThisWorkbook.FullName

' Fetch file name in A2
MyFile = ActiveWorkbook.Name
FileTrim = Trim(Left(MyFile, InStr(1, MyFile, ".") - 1))
Range("A2").Value = FileTrim

' Combine the containts of A2 & A3
    Range("A3").Select
    ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=R[-1]C&R[-2]C"

' Change File Name as A3
MyName = Range("A3").Value
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
        "C:\Documents and Settings\Girish\Desktop\" & MyName & ".xls", _
        FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
        ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

' Delete the containts of A2 & A3

    Range("A3").Activate

Try the following.  Application.screenupdating turns of any visual updates on the screen - this makes the macro a lot faster to run.

Sub Rename()
Application.screenupdating = false
OriginalName = ThisWorkbook.FullName

' Fetch file name in A2
MyFile = ActiveWorkbook.Name
FileTrim = Trim(Left(MyFile, InStr(1, MyFile, ".") - 1))
Range("A2").Value = FileTrim

' Combine the containts of A2 & A3
    Range("A3").Select
    ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=R[-1]C&R[-2]C"

' Change File Name as A3
MyName = Range("A3").Value
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
        "C:\Documents and Settings\Girish\Desktop\" & MyName & ".xls", _
        FileFormat:=xlNormal, Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", _
        ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, CreateBackup:=False

' Delete the containts of A2 & A3
    Range("A2:A3").ClearContents

Kill OriginalName
Application.screenupdating = true
End Sub
