Formating excel viia vb code

I am having problems getting the syntax for formating anm excel sheet running from  vb code in ms access

 Dim oExcel As Object
   Dim oBook As Object
   Dim oSheet As Object
   Set oExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
   Set oBook = oExcel.WorkBooks.Add
oBook.ActiveSheet.Range("E" & y).Value = "SCENARIO REPORT"
oBook.ActiveSheet.Range("E" & y).Font.Bold = True
**** this does not work throw up "Object does not support this propety or method
oBook.ActiveSheet.Range("E" & y).Font = "Arial"
oBook.ActiveSheet.Range("E" & y).FontSize = 20

have also tried playing with the below code that also throws up the same errors
any ideas would be most apprecated thanks

        .HorizontalAlignment = xlCenter
            .VerticalAlignment = xlBottom
          .WrapText = False
            .Orientation = 0
          .AddIndent = False
           .ShrinkToFit = False
            .MergeCells = True
