I am getting an 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' message when attempting to close excel spreadsheets saved on the network. It doesnt prevent me from saving or closing the document but no one else in the office experiences this message and it seems isolated to just my machine. I have logged on from another machine and do not get this message. Can you help? Many thanks. K

Uninstalling and reinstalling Office did not work. However, I have identified that this 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' issue started happening after installing a specific piece of software - DM Hummingbird Extensions/Interceptor. I need to find a way to make this software work alongside Microsoft Office 2007....any ideas on where to start?
sound to me like there is an OnClose event being called that has an error. Check to see if there is such an event handler in you startup files.

I've had a look at some of the DM Hummingbird documentation, and I noted a comment about being compatible with Office 2003. It might be helpful to contact DM to check on Office 2007 compatibility. I strongly suspect this to be the issue, as being document management software and written in C++ it falls into the right ball-park.
I have finally resolved this issue. The issue was the result of an incompatibilty between Microsoft Office 2007 and a DM Hummingbird Add-In. Disabling this add-in (in this case through Excel - Excel Options, Add-Ins, Manage: COM Add-In's) prevented the 'Object reference not set..' appearing. Sorted.

I'd suggest reinstalling Excel. I had an issue recently with Access 2007 failing to run any of the reporting facilities, which I cured (drastically) by deinstalling & reinstalling the whole of MS Office. As the problem is restricted to just your machine, it sounds as though the instance of Excel on that PC has itself got corrupted.
